Comparing the Effectiveness of Therapy Based on Baucom's Model and Emotional Couple Therapy on, Forgiveness, Internalized Shame, and Problem Solving in Victims of Marital Infidelity

Abstract :

Aim: The aim of the present study was Comparing the Effectiveness of Therapy Based on Baucom's Model and Emotional Couple Therapy on, Forgiveness, Internalized Shame, and Problem Solving in Victims of Marital Infidelity. Method: The method of the present study was quasi-experimental and pre-test-post-test-follow-up with a control group. The statistical population included all women affected by infidelity who had referred to divorce centers in Tehran in the fall of 2024. 45 people were selected through purposive sampling and were randomly assigned to three groups (15 people in emotion-focused couple therapy, 15 people in Bakum model therapy, and 15 people in the control group) and responded to Pollard's forgiveness questionnaire (1998), Cook's internalized shame questionnaire (1993), and Ahmadi's family problem solving questionnaire (2010). The experimental groups also underwent intervention during 8 45-minute weekly sessions. The obtained data were also analyzed using the repeated measures analysis of variance method and SPSS-26 software. Findings: The results showed that treatment based on the Bakum model and emotion-focused couple therapy were effective on forgiveness, internalized shame, and problem solving. Also, Bakum treatment had a greater effect on forgiveness and problem solving variables than emotion-focused treatment, but on internalized shame variable, emotion-focused treatment had a greater effect than Bakum treatment (P <0.05). Discussion and Conclusion: Both treatment methods can be used in the context of couples.
