Prediction of Marital Frustration Based on the Quality of Relationships and Cognitive Distortions with the Mediation of Forgiveness in Women with Distressed Family Relationships

Abstract :

 This research was conducted with the aim of predicting marital frustration based on the quality of relationships and cognitive distortions with the mediation of forgiveness in women with distressed family relationships. The descriptive research method was correlation type with path analysis. The statistical population included all women with distressed family relationships who referred to counseling and psychotherapy centers in Tehran (Districts 15 and 14) in the first half of 2024, 172 of whom were selected by convenience sampling and the Marital Forgiveness Questionnaire (MFQ) (Rye et al, 2001), Marital Disillusionment Scale (MDC) (Niehuis & Bartell, 2006), Relationship Quality Scale (RQ) (Chonody et al., 2018), and Interpersonal Cognitive Distortions Scale (ICDS) (Hamamci & Buyukozturk, 2004) answered. Path analysis was used to analyze the data with LISREL software version 8.8. Based on the findings, marital frustration had a significant relationship with relationship quality (r=-0.422), cognitive distortions (r=0.491) and forgiveness (r=-0.363) (p<0.01). Also, forgiveness in the relationship between relationship quality and marital frustration with standard effect (0.07) and path coefficient (-0.34) and in the relationship between cognitive distortions and marital frustration with standard effect (0.06) and coefficient Path (0.29) had a significant indirect effect (p<0.01). It can be concluded that the research model has a good fit. Therefore, special attention and importance should be given to the variables of relationship quality, cognitive distortions, and forgiveness; because by knowing these factors, an important step can be taken to reduce distressed family relationships.
