Design and validation of the Semnan obsessive-compulsive disorder questionnaire

Abstract :

Although several questionnaires have been designed to assess obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), they have shortcomings in accurately measuring the severity of obsessive thoughts, compulsive behaviors, and religious obsessions with regard to cultural dimensions. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to design a native questionnaire to measure the severity and dimensions of OCD. The method of this study was mixed (qualitative and quantitative). First, texts related to OCD were collected, analyzed, and indicators were extracted. Then, based on the indicators, the items were designed and approved by 12 experts in terms of content validity. Then, the approved items were administered and validated along with the Maudsley questionnaire in 223 people. To assess test-retest reliability, 47 participants completed the questionnaire again 30 days later. Descriptive statistics, exploratory factor analysis, diagnostic coefficient, difficulty, Pearson correlation, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, and SPSS24 software were used in the analysis of the data. The results of exploratory factor analysis showed that the three factors of obsession, compulsive acts, and religious obsession explained a total of 77% of the variance of the questionnaire. The reliability and internal consistency of the questionnaire based on Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.84, and based on the split-half method and the Spearman and Gottman coefficient was 0.89, and the convergent validity based on correlation with Maudsley questionnaire was 0.66, and the reliability based on the test-retest method was 0.78. Based on results, the Inventory is suitable for measuring the severity and areas of OCD in Muslims.
