The mediating role of commitment to family in relation to emotional regulation and self-efficacy in drug addiction

Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between emotion regulation and self-efficacy of drug addiction with the mediating role of commitment to family in the helpers who refer to drug addiction camp in Guilan province. In this descriptive-correlation study, 258 clients referred to addiction treatment camps were included in the study by simple random sampling method. The data were collected using Gross and John's (2003) emotion regulation questionnaires, Bramson's (1999) drug withdrawal self-efficacy and Razaghi et al.'s (2016) commitment to family questionnaires. Descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling method were used in the data analysis. The results showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between emotional regulation of clients and commitment to their family (P<0.01). Also, a positive and significant relationship was seen between commitment to the clients' family and self-efficacy in their addiction recovery (P<0.01). Emotional regulation of clients also showed a significant positive relationship with self-efficacy of their drug withdrawal (P<0.01). Finally, commitment to the family had a mediating role in the relationship between emotion regulation and self-efficacy in addiction recovery (p<0.037). The ability to regulate emotions by creating positive changes in the self-efficacy of drug withdrawal, as well as with the mediating role of commitment to the family, can be effective on drug withdrawal and belief in it in voluntary withdrawal clients. Therefore, it is important for therapists to pay attention to these factors.
