The relationship between media literacy and psychological capital with students' academic engagement: testing the mediating role of social cognition

Abstract :

The aim of the present study was to predict students' academic engagement based on psychological capital and media literacy with the mediating role of social cognition. The descriptive research method was correlation type. The statistical population of the research included all the secondary school students of Agh Qola city in the academic year of 1402-1403 in the number of 4022 students. To select the research sample, cluster random sampling method was used and 320 students were selected as the research sample. The research tools included Loutans psychological capital questionnaires, Nejati, Kemari and Jafari social cognition (2013) and philosophical media literacy (2013) academic engagement by Rio (2013). To analyze statistical data, correlation analysis and structural equations were used with the help of SPSS and LISREL software. The research findings showed that psychological capital (P<0.03, β=0.58), media literacy (P<0.04, β=0.45) and social cognition (P<0.001, β=0.55) ) has a positive and significant direct effect on students' academic engagement. Also, the direct effect of psychological capital variable (P < 0.003, β = 0.52) and media literacy (P < 0.002, β = 0.61) on the mediating variable of social cognition also shows the positive and significant effect of these variables. Was. The results of the research showed that psychological capital and media literacy indirectly and with the mediation of social cognition have a positive and significant indirect effect on academic engagement.
